Starting a Character:
- When a character is started, the player gets 7 rolls of 4 dice, keeping
the highest three from each roll. Select the five highest scores and the
scores can be placed in each attribute as desired.
The attribute scores are strength, dexterity, magical affinity, constitution,
and mechanical skills. If the character is non-human, scores are modified
after placement.
- After score placement, skills can be purchased. The character receives
16 starting points. Each starting point can be spent to buy a category or
a skill. Prerequisites for magic or ergeonite skills must be purchased for
6 or 2 points before magic or ergeonite skills can be purchased. Note that
when spending starting points, categories and skills cost one point each,
not the 1000/100 XP cost that they have if they are purchased later with
XP. If a character wants to purchase higher levels in a skill, the
starting point cost is equal to the level being purchased. So buying
yourself up to level 4 in long sword would cost 1 point to buy the Melee
Weapons category, then 1 point to buy the Swords Major Skill, then 1 point
to take Longsword, then 2 points to increase Longsword to level 2, then 3
points to increase Longsword to level 3, and then 4 points to increase
Longsword to level 4. So after 12 points, the character has a +4 attack
with a longsword, and nothing else – better spend the last 4 points very
carefully. Of course, if you happen to team up with the Three Musketeers,
you might end up a great character.
